tangled cluster magnetism

Visualization of the strength of magnetic fields in the central region of a massive galaxy cluster, with total halo mass ~2 x 10^14 solar masses at redshift zero, from the TNG50 cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulation. In this case, an extremely thin slice of only 4.2 ckpc/h in the projection (line-of-sight) direction reveals small-scale complexity and tangling of the magnetic field topology, tracing out turbulence and motion in the hot plasma of the magnetized intracluster medium gas.
